xbox live help!

when i try to connect to xbox live it always comes up wiv ip failed.

im using a modem anmy provider is virgin media. could anyone help me out with this 1??

Ok you are no doubt running the cable from back of PC directly through to the Xbox which is called a gateway, when i first started i used this method and the same thing happened, now i am going to presume that you need to have the PC on and internet connected to play the Xobx since you aint got a router, like i didnt

The problem is your firewall (Are you using Zonealarm by any chance?) for playing on XBL you have to disable it, unfortuinutly its the only way (That i could find anyway) that is what is blocking your network getting the IP address on another system.

however, one thing about the Xbox 360, if you have it switched on when you disable the firewall and go to connect, you will have to switch it off and on again. It sucks i know but only takes a few seconds

Best thing to do, get a cheap router and it will work great

Also check you have network setting set to Shared connection in Network properties i know this sounds silly but its amazing how many times i have come across this problem.

what i was doin, was connectin the xbox straight into the modem box.

an no i aint usin zonealarm.

Oh ok, dont do that, plug it into the network card on the back of your PC, Share connection and you should be able to go

by that do you mean where the ethernet cable goes?

Is your modem not USB then?

did a search and came up with this , dont have a xbox so this is the best that i could do http://xbox360help.blogspot.com/2007/04/ip-failed-xbox-360-live-test.html hope it helps it seems like it helped other people with ip probs

An all my modem has is a ethernet slot.

got it workin needed to put the physichal address of my pc into my 360
